Call for Papers

Call for Papers extended! The new deadline is March 15, 2019!

The ABRATES International Conference is an excellent opportunity to learn, update your skills and knowledge, and to make contact with colleagues.

We now have the pleasure of inviting any interested parties to present proposals/abstracts for presentation at the 10th ABRATES International Translation and Interpretation Conference, to be held in São Paulo (SP), Brazil, from May 31 through June 2, 2019, at the Bourbon Convention Ibirapuera Hotel. This will be a very special occasion, as we will be celebrating our 45th anniversary.

The main focus of the event this year is the contributions made by professional associations – conquests made and new grounds to be gained. The theme of the Conference is Professional Associations, Going Beyond Tomorrow, showcasing the roles played by these entities as the professions’ future is challenged by technological developments and professionals must future-proof their practices.

The event will also focus on innovation within the translation and interpretation fields, as also other related areas (including teaching and research), thereby casting a new slant upon the daily routine of translators and interpreters. Proposals addressing new areas, or areas not usually covered at events, are particularly welcome, as are innovative approaches to familiar issues. However, all aspects that are important for our professions will be equally appreciated.

Some suggested areas to be addressed:

  • The translatorclient relationship
  • Professional associations
  • Academic issues related to translation and/or interpreting
  • Beginners: entry into the market
  • Brazilian Sign Language – LIBRAS
  • Specific language areas (such as legal, technical, and medical terminology; the arts, and so on)
  • The interpretation market
  • Technologies applied to translation
  • Machine translation
  • Translation and/or interpretation (Spanish/Italian/German/French)
  • Sworn translation
  • Literary translation
  • Translation for subtitling and dubbing
  • Use of translation tools

The new deadline for submission of proposals is March 15, 2019.

Important: The material received will be analyzed by the Organising Committee of the 10th Conference, and ONLY THE PROPOSALS ACCEPTED WILL WARRANT A NOTIFICATION BY E-MAIL, NO LATER THAN MARCH 31, 2019. We expect to receive the presentation files from those whose proposals have been accepted no later than May 1 (e-mail address where the files are sent will be informed on acceptance).
